Small Augmentation/Socket Preservation

If a patient has a loose tooth or a large area of infection or cyst around a tooth then it is sometimes necessary to remove the tooth,  debride the area of any infection or granulation tissue and fill the socket with a grafting material usually Bio-Oss®/Bio Gide®/Bio-Oss® COLLAGEN, PRGF or synthetic bone material.  This is then allowed to mature for 3-6 months before an implant can be placed into the new bone.  This procedure is also useful if a patient is undecided about having an implant, as the material will maintain the bone volume for a longer period (6-12 months) than if the tooth were just extracted and left to heal.
